Violet Mosse Brown
Violet Mosse Brown’s oldest son, Harold Fairweather, was the oldest “child” in the world—the oldest person who still had a living parent—until he passed away in the spring of 2017 at the age of 96 and five months before his mother died.
Violet lived in Duanvale, Jamaica, where her family has lived for 200 years.
When we visited her on her 117th birthday, Violet recited a Lord Byron poem, “The Vision of Belshazzar,” that she had been taught as a young student. We were impressed and moved by the mental acuity of someone who could recall a poem she had learned over a century before.
